| Marco Vacca / Refugees: Darfur, Ciad, South Sudan |
| The reportage was shot in South Sudan during the war and between the middle of may 2005 and december 2008 in the Region of Darfur and in eastern border of Ciad where IDP and refugees were dislocated as consequences of attacks and distructions of village of non arab population during the past years by Janjaweed militia. The dramatic accounts of events in Darfur all tell the same story, proof of the fact that the conflict raging in this part of Sudan has systematically targeted the civilian population. the former secretary of UN, Kofy Annan described the situation as hell on earth. The international Committee of the Red Cross declared the area a Region of terror, and USA has openly referred to the ceaseless atrocities in western Sudan as “Genocide”. It is been estimated that more than 70.000 people have been killed, mainly with light firearms or have died of desease related to the crisis. to escape the violence, some 2.2 million people have left their villages to seek refuge in safe areas in the interior or moved to neighbouring Ciad. The story tells about life in refugees camp as Abushouk (north Darfur), Kalma (south), Kass (north), Garsila (west), Djabal and Goz Beida (eastern Ciad) and villages where the Italian Ngo Intersos as well as UN agencies are involved in project for sustaining the victims of this long time conflict. |
