Along the river

On November 2, 1975 Pier Paolo Pasolini's body was found at Idroscalo Ostia. Today, this land belongs to the land is illegally occupied by some 500 families.
In the 60s for its geographical location at the mouth of the Tiber, became a fishing village. It was they who built the first wooden huts obtaining state concession. The huts quickly turned into homes for the summer holidays but with the cost of living increased, many families moved there permanently from the center of Rome.
People will literally have always fought for that piece of land, rebuilt the cliff to their cost, they got the lights in the main square, drinking water, the cabins of the ACEA, a number on each house, a viable connecting them to the city, a bus line.
But to make matters worse, nine years ago has helped build the port of Ostia, in the area around seaplane; hence the threat of eviction have become more obvious the need to expand the port area, the interest of many contractors.
A 500 families at risk, which in this limbo, have stopped investing money for the maintenance of their homes. Today, the roads are still flooded, houses falling to pieces almost in the sea some banging against the walls, in others, the swollen river enters the gates. But residents do not want to learn to abandon their land, they live for three generations. The eviction would find in some residences in the capital, surrounded by cement separated from their loved ones and their roots.
Who sees it from outside, may seem a "no man's land", but anyone who lives, the seaplane base is the only alternative to a world where everything is too expensive. At idroscalo with 10 thousand euros you can buy a house with 400 rent in recent years have moved many immigrant families because the costs are more affordable. It 's a great example of integration and coexistence between different cultures, everyone knows the afternoon we saw in the square, the company you keep chat, play cards, do not feel never alone.
