Rainbow families
A cura di 3/3
Martina and Delfina live between Italy and Spain, where they got married in 2009. In Spain their union is legally recognized.
Lia and Andrea, Franco’s and Tommaso’s children, were born thanks to a surrogacy agreement. Nancy, their surrogate, is Californian. After the babies' birth she was the best man at their daddies' wedding ceremony.
Since Italian law allows neither homosexual weddings nor common-law marriages, Sonia and Ilaria have chosen to sign a cohabitation agreement. They got legal support from Rainbow Families, the association that brings together Italian gay and lesbian families and fights for their rights.
Eleonora Calvelli’s Rainbow Families project, started in 2008, recounts the stories of ten Italian gay/lesbian families and their children. Italian law recognizes neither homosexual unions nor the family ties between the child and his or her non-biological parent.
